Energy Assessment

With Legislative Decree 102 of 4 July 2014, Italy implemented Directive 2012/27/EU on Energy Efficiency: the national energy saving objective is to reduce primary energy consumption by 20 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) by 2020.

One of the focal points of the Decree is the obligation to carry out Energy Assessments, by December 2019, for all Large Enterprises, i.e. the companies with more than 250 employees and a turnover of 50 million or an annual balance sheet total of 43 million, and for Energivores, i.e. energy-intensive companies that are obtaining discounts on electricity supplies.

Large Enterprises are subject to the obligation of assessment only if the condition of "Large Enterprise" has applied for the two consecutive financial years preceding the year in which the audit is carried out and from the date of closure of the accounts.

Energivore companies are obliged to carry out energy audits only if they are beneficiaries of the relevant incentives for the second year. In this case, the same procedures used by Large Enterprises apply.

Both types of Organizations, once the first Assessment has been carried out, and if conditions are still present, they will have to renew it and present it every 4 years.
