Electromagnetic Compatibility | Directive 2014/30/EU
Directive 2014/30/EU represents the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to electromagnetic compatibility. As of 20 April 2016, it replaces the previous edition 2004/108/EC, dated 29 April 2004, which, as a result, repealed Directive 89/336/EEC.
This Directive sets out the minimum health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to the risks arising from physical agents, electromagnetic fields.
All electrical and electronic devices transmit and are influenced by electromagnetic fields. The extent of these emissions and the immunity to fields produced by more or less nearby devices are covered by Directive 2014/30/EU. Electromagnetic fields, however, are not limited to electromagnetic waves radiated by radio/TV transmission antennas, which are also regulated by Directive 2014/53/EU, the so-called RED Directive (Radio Equipment Directive), which as of 16 April 2014 repealed the previous R&TTE 99/5/EC. Influences conducted by the power supply, such as TV images disturbed by the hairdryer or microwave oven, are much more dangerous for the operation and integrity of electronic equipment, such as smart appliances with sophisticated electronic controls.
Photovoltaic systems and, in particular, inverters introduce considerable disturbances and worsen the quality of the supply voltage for all users: domestic, residential, light and heavy industry. All the equipments are subject to electromagnetic stress if not adequately designed and protected.
The manufacturer is responsible for the conformity of the product with the essential safety requirements established by the Directive, compliance with which is guaranteed by the full application of the harmonised standards establishing good construction practices, test methods and evaluation.
The manufacturer may affix the CE marking to the equipment after having prepared a technical file, carried out an adequate risk analysis and drawn up the EC Declaration of Conformity.
